Corrections policy

We work hard to get every fact right, and we link to our sources so you can check them. When we get something wrong, we fix it in the open.

How we correct mistakes:

  1. Tell us. Email [email protected] with the issue date, what's wrong and, if you can, a link to a source that shows what's right.
  2. We check it against the original source, usually within one business day.
  3. If we made an error, we correct it:
    • The next issue includes a Corrections note saying what was wrong and what is right.
    • The online copy of the issue is updated with a note at the top showing what changed and when.
    • The correction is added to the log below.
  4. We never quietly delete or rewrite a story to hide a mistake.

Small fixes that don't change the meaning (a typo or a broken link) may be fixed without a formal correction, but we still note them in the online copy.

Clarifications: if something was accurate but could mislead, we add a clarification the same way.
